Laurie will teach a few designs and then sell product during the rest of the jam.  She
will be showing us some patriotic designs and also a quick lesson on lettering,
graffiti-style...names, numbers, initials and letters which are all popular for the 4th of
July.
Laurie is a California native; she grew up in Ventura,
California and moved to Clovis (Central California) in
1984.  Her mother was an antiques dealer and her father
was a blinded veteran who was an accomplished journalist
and an artist who used black ink.  He did satirical art (New
Yorker Magazine style) and encouraged her love for
pencil and ink.  Laurie went to Ventura Jr College to study
Graphic Arts and Journalism.

Laurie has always been a makeup artist; from the time she
was a teenager (and doing all of my friend's makeup in the
very made-up 60s/70s), to winning numerous Halloween
contests all of her life, to this day when she still does what
she loves.   She began face painting at 19.

Laurie opened her party business, Goodie Bagz, in
October 2006.  She provided themed, costumed parties
(which included hair styling, makeup, face painting, and
games) in themed party rooms inside a mall store.
Although her parties were successful, she could not
endure the beginning of a strained economy and chose to
quit before it got worse and she began solely face
painting.

Laurie started Starlines Emporium in 2009.  She has been
the Makeup Manager for Fright Night Scream Park for the
past 2 years and teaches classes locally in beginning face
painting.  She was recently selected by Prilosec to be their
Official Face & Body Painter via a contest.  Her face art
was recently photographed to be used on the packaging
for Tulip Brand (www.ilovetocreate.com) Face Paints,
launching in September 2010.

Laurie is married (for almost 25 years) to Dino.  They
have one daughter and a wonderful son-in-law with two
amazing granddaughters, ages 9 & 13.  Dino is also a
sculptor, creating our new line of silicone prosthetics.  We
have 2 cats, Bleu and Cot...and 2 chihuahuas, Mimi and
Boris.

My favorite face and body artists (mentors) are:  Pashur,
Mark Reid, Jodi Carr, Lynn Jamieson, Marcela Murad,
Nick & Brian Wolfe, Kurt Drake and April Powell, Jinny,
Lucie Brouillard, Rebecca Tonkavich, and my new
favorite, Yolanda Bartram.  Of course, there are many
others.

Starlines Emporium was created out of a need for face
paint/supplies representation on the West Coast.  She
longs to be the "Silly Farm of the West" and realize this
will take a huge amount of work, time, and money.  Laurie
thinks they are the "Disney" of the face painting industry
and although she will strive to be as successful as Silly
Farm, she wants to create her own identity and brand.
